Union Minister says Tamil Nadu man’s sacred thread cut, police deny claim

Union Minister L Murugan on Monday claimed that some bike-borne men allegedly cut the sacred thread of a man from Tamil Nadu. However, after an investigation, the state police said that no such incident was confirmed.
The Minister claimed that four men on bikes surrounded a young man, Akilesh, who was returning home and cut off his sacred thread in Tirunelveli’s Thyagaraja Nagar.
Murugan, who was conducting a BJP membership drive in the district, condemned the alleged incident and demanded a thorough police investigation. He also visited the man’s residence and assured his parents that he would take up the matter.
“I visited him at his home. He had gone to an ashram near his home for puja when he was surrounded and threatened. They told him that if he continued to wear the sacred thread, they would kill him. He is frightened, and I urge the police to conduct an investigation and arrest those involved. This is the wish of the Tamil Nadu BJP,” the minister said.
However, the local police, who initiated an investigation, said no such incident could be verified.
An official stated that CCTV footage from the surrounding area had been reviewed and locals were questioned, but the claims could not be substantiated.
